Every year around this time an urban legend floats around the city of Houston: that Yellow Cab is giving free rides on New Years Eve. While, unfortunately, this rumor is not true we do have some tips for letting YC be your DD next Monday night.
Yellow Cab Houston is our city’s largest taxi fleet (with 1,400 cabs) but sometimes it can be tough to catch a ride on the busiest night of the year.
It’s great to know that so many Houstonians are thinking responsibly and it is our goal to provide the best transportation services possible. While we cannot guarantee service on a night like this,
Here are some tips for catching a Yellow Cab on New Years Eve:
1) Book your trip on our free HAIL A CAB™ app to track your dispatched cab. You will be able to monitor the taxi in real time as it approaches. The cab number will be displayed as well, so it is easier to spot your designated vehicle.
2) Book early– If you have an idea of when you’d like to leave for the party, book your trip in advance using our HAIL A CAB™ app.
3) Leave before peak times– HAIL A CAB™ before 9:30pm when demand is lower than, say, 10pm or 11pm. (of course, peak times may vary).
4) Get your independent contractor driver (ICD’s) business card so that you can call them directly to be picked up. Better yet, map out a particular time and place where you will meet your ICD. While they may be servicing others and may not be available if you don’t coordinate in advance, it is helpful to have his or her contact information for scheduling future trips and pick ups.
5) Tip Big– Independent contractor drivers are operating their own businesses, so establishing that you are an appreciative client during this busy night may increase your chances of heading home in a timely fashion once the clock strikes 2am.
