Yellow Cab Houston goes pink for breast cancer awareness

Earlier this month, Yellow Cab Houston tallied the stats from its annual Pink Rides fundraiser benefiting the American Cancer Society (ACS). During the month of May, Yellow Cab donated $1 for every ride taken in one of its pink cabs and $1 for every photo with a pink cab that was posted to its Facebook page. The Pink Rides promotion raised $750.00 in addition to the sponsorship at ACS’ annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer (MSABC) 5k on May 10th.

On Saturday, May 10th, team Yellow Cab Cares joined thousands of breast cancer survivors, loved ones and community partners at NRG Park for the annual 5k. Walkers and attendees were encouraged to write inspirational messages and the names of loved ones affected by breast cancer on pink ribbons and place them on the HAIL A CAB® promo Jeep. Yellow Cab also donated mobile billboard space to promote the event across the city of Houston.

Yellow Cab Houston is proud to partner with ACS, not only for Making Strides but by providing year-round transportation services for patients to and from important appointments and treatment.

Yellow Cab Houston Sponsors World Refugee Day

This past Saturday, Yellow Cab Houston was proud to sponsor Houston World Refugee Day at Raindrop Turkish House. Hundreds gathered to celebrate and support our refugee community through art, food, performances and culture. Yellow Cab had a booth at the resource fair, joined by various agencies that assist refugees and their families in transitioning to life in Houston. U.S. Representative Sheila Jackson Lee, State Representative Gene Wu, and Houston City Council Member Mike Laster attended the event to show support and to recognize individuals who have made significant impact within the refugee community. Volunteers developed a “refugee experience” exhibit that emulated the difficult journey that many refugees go through to reach their new lives in Houston.

Yellow Cab Houston is proud to support our refugee community by providing business opportunities and transportation services. Yellow Cab helps prevent human trafficking in Houston

On Tuesday, June 3rd Yellow Cab Houston joined Clear Channel Outdoor and METRO in providing advertising space to United Against Human Trafficking to raise awareness of human trafficking across the city. Twenty five Yellow cabs will feature mobile billboards (pictured below) to encourage all Houstonians and visitors to be aware and prevent human trafficking. Hosted inside of the lobby of historic City Hall, MayorAnnise Parker (along with many other government and City Officials), law enforcement and media partners spoke about local, state and national efforts to combat human trafficking. While important organizations like United Against Human Trafficking and other agencies are working hard to create initiatives to stop this criminal enterprise, we must all ban together and put on a united front to stop this $150 billion industry in its tracks. Yellow Cab Houston is dedicated to working with our community partners to prevent human trafficking. To view the complete photo album (including speakers) please visit our Facebook page*. For more information and to join the coalition against human trafficking, please visit www.houstonrr.org.

Crisis Intervention of Houston, Inc. honors Yellow Cab Houston for the Crisis Hotline Emergency Transportation (CHET) Program

Yellow Cab Houston was honored to receive recognition from Crisis Intervention of Houston (CIH), Inc. at its annual Stewards of Hope gala this past Friday night. For the past 25 years, Yellow Cab has partnered with CIH to provide transportation to those who need it most during a time of crisis. The Crisis Hotline Emergency Transportation (CHET) Program primarily helps women and children escape domestic violence by transporting them to shelter and safety. A team of Yellow Cab dispatchers and independent contractor drivers who are well-oriented in crisis intervention procedures work closely with CIH staff. Since the program began, nearly 10,000 women and children have been provided reliable access to shelter.

In addition to domestic violence situations, Yellow Cab Houston also works closely with Kroger to deliver groceries to families in need and aided in transporting clients who were displaced during hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Ike.

CIH-YellowCab2014-1

CIH also recognized three additional honorees for their contributions to the organization and its mission. Congratulations to our fellow honorees: Shauna Johnson Clark, Bradley J. Deutser and Sandra Lopez.

Yellow Cab Houston looks forward to continuing this valuable partnership with CIH through the CHET program. Yellow Cab believes that it is our duty to collaborate with community partners to assist those in a time of need. A sincere thank you to Crisis Intervention of Houston for this incredible honor.
